Christian Aid Week Conversation Starter PowerPoint Presentation

I have used a wide range of inspirations to create a fun conversation starting lesson about Christian Aid week. This lesson looks at different issues which may be covered in Christian Aid week such as what is war, what is peace, what is a home and how we can help our fellow man, woman and child. I have started using conversation starters in my own lessons with great effect and I think you will also enjoy using them in your own lessons. As stated in the presentation, while these resources will help you present your Christian Aid week lessons in class, I have no connection with Christian Aid.

September 4 Science Pack - Skeletons, Teeth and Senses PowerPoint and Display Material

I have created 4 great teaching packs for Science: Animal Skeleton Bones, Human Skeleton Bones, Teeth and Your Senses. You can download these packs, print them off and have an instant wonderful display. Alternatively, you would use them as PowerPoint presentations within a lesson to introduce or review a topic. They make excellent talking prompts for the class! Animal Skeletons: See different examples of animal bones. How are they similar? How do they differ from each other? There are bones of fish, whales, snake and cows, to mention just a few. Human Skeletons: Here is a nice resource pack which contains a lot of the different bones students need to learn about. The photos are fantastic. Teeth: This includes what we need to have nice teeth and a few photos of what happens if we are not careful with our teeth. There are also some animal pictures so you can discuss animal teeth shapes. Senses: A nice teaching pack about our 5 senses. This would make an excellent display or sorting activity.

There are lots of different discussions you can have with your class, including having false teeth and the importance of wearing braces when young. This pack contains a 31 Teaching Activity Teacher Guide using these photo flash cards. These activities are quick and fun to do and will improve both your students' memory and vocabulary skills. You could print off and laminate the photos to make an interesting, eye-catching display about Teeth. The students could also take the laminated photos and sort them into different Teeth related activities and objects. The students can then discuss why they think each one is important. The photos could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.

Thinking Scarves - The Creative Thinking System for Primary Schools

Thinking Scarves - The Creative Thinking System for Primary Schools

(0)
I would like to introduce a brand new concept in thinking. Thinking Scarves. For a long time I was a huge fan of thinking hats... until a teacher one day wrote to me and said she did not like Thinking Hats as the Black Hat was very negative and could help to reinforce negative stereotypes about the colour black. In contrast, "White" was seen as a straight down the line, honest hat. The facts, pure and simple, without and falsification or misinterpretation. I then thought I am a teacher. Why not simply reinvent the whole system - forget about hats - scarves are the answer. With scarves, you can share them between friends, creating a closer bond between the thinkers. Make a thinking system which works perfectly in a primary school environment. Green - What is positive - makes you feel good? Red - What is negative? What makes you feeling angry or upset? Purple - what are your general feelings towards a character? Like purple, feelings can be hard to define. Gold - Make 'n' Shake - Follow your dreams and all the streets will be paved in gold. Blue : Facts - Facts, like the sea and sky can appear endless. Guide: No scarves, just a handy bag to carry all the scarves in and organise them into some sort of order. I would love other people's opinions on this concept.

Weekly Happiness Diary - 7 Reasons to be cheerful...

I have created a simple set of worksheets to help students to focus on what is good in their lives. They can complete this work at the beginning or the end of the day. They could even have it set as homework one week. The idea being that if students know they will need to write about being happy, they will actively seek out happiness to write about. When students write about being happy, they relive that happy moment, and of course become happier!

I have created 15 anti-war slogan posters which teachers are free to use, discuss and share in their classrooms. They are a great way for launching and supporting classroom discussions. Why do people go to war? Is there such a thing as a just war? Is there always a solution which does not involve violence? If you like these posters, please take the time to leave a nice comment, share and distribute these resources to others. I have developed an idea. Did you know that during your registration period every day, you could be actively making your whole class happier? This could be done in the morning, the afternoon or even better at the end of each day before they go home. All they do is complete this 21 page daily journal on things which make them happy. I have used it and I can say it does make a big difference to how you approach life.

Teaching students how to run or hide in a terrorist attack - Child friendly booklet.

(0)
After the Paris terrorist attack, good advice came out from homeland security on what to do if you face an attack. However it was focused on adults and not child friendly. I thought I would create a simple book which explains to children what is now recommended in the case of an active shooter attack. You should however still point out that this is an incredibly unlikely event - but one students now need to be prepared for.
